Dear Parent / Carer / Resident
The Future of Compton Dundon Primary School
I am writing to you on behalf of the Governors of the Federation of Compton Dundon and Kingsdon CofE Primary Schools to update you on the current situation over the future of Compton Dundon Primary School.
The Local Authority will be starting a consultation procedure for the closure of the school on Friday 26th November. This does not mean that the school will automatically close at the end of the process, but unless there is a change in its current circumstances it is likely that it will.
At a recent meeting of the full governing body it was decided not to request consultation for the closure of the school for the following reasons:-
- The school was only just recovering from the shock of so many children leaving last summer. There was a very positive response to the recent open day for Key Stage 1 admissions next September.
- There are 41 Children (of primary school age) in the catchment. And a viable number of younger children.
- The Social housing vacancies in the 6 no. 3 and 4 bedroom houses might mean that there will be a significant number of children moving into the village before the end of this year.
The governors want to encourage everybody in the village to express their views to the local authority. There will be a public meeting on Monday 13th December; 7.00pm; at Compton Dundon Primary School. The consultation lasts until 28th January 2011, followed by the publication of the proposal, and another 6 weeks of representation before a final decision is made. It is important that you also express views during the representation period.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.
